LONDON – Letcher County Sheriff Danny Webb has been named a recipient of Operation UNITE’s “Rising Above” Award for inspiring leadership in the field of law enforcement.

The award was presented by Gil Kerlikowske, White House Director for Drug Policy, and Fifth District Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers during a celebration dinner at the London Community Center Wednesday, February 23.

Webb served the commonwealth for three decades with the Kentucky State Police, rising to the rank of Captain, prior to becoming Letcher County sheriff. Before that, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Bronze Star.

Now in his third term as Letcher County Sheriff, Webb currently serves as an Executive Board member for Appalachian HIDTA and is Co-Chairman for the Letcher County UNITE Coalition.

“He certainly understands the importance of community involvement in the field of police work,” said Dan Smoot, law enforcement director for UNITE.
