Organizers have pulled together more than 180 thought leaders from across the country to lead discussions using evidence-based data. General Session keynote speakers this year will include: Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell, ONDCP Director Michael Botticelli, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Tom Frieden, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Dr. Francis Collins, National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Director Dr. Nora Volkow, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Acting Commissioner Stephen Ostroff, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, and former U.S. Representative Hon. Patrick J. Kennedy (RI-1st), and Hon. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-5th), Chair of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.
There will also be a Forum with Members of the U.S. Congress. In addition to Congressman Rogers, panel members include U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (WV), U.S. Representative Hon. The main program features 48 breakout sessions organized into eight educational tracks tailored to provide stakeholders – from local, state and federal agencies, business, academia, clinicians, treatment providers, counselors, educators, state and national leaders, and advocates impacted by Rx drug abuse – timely and relevant information for their particular field – Clinical, Education & Advocacy, Law Enforcement, Pharmacy, Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs), Third-Party Payers, Treatment and Trending Topics.
But there is much more. The Rx Summit also includes 14 Vision Sessions examining innovative programs and strategies designed to educate, mitigate and resolve issues; 4 Pre-Summit Workshops — Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, a primer on Rx Overdose by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and breaking the cycle of intergenerational substance abuse by the WestCare Foundation — and 8 Thought Leader Roundtable discussions.
This year, the Rx Summit is partnering with Project SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana) to provide a day-long marijuana education summit (separate registration required) on Thursday, April 9. Participants in that event include former ONDCP Director Gen. Barry McCaffrey, U.S. Representative Hon. John Fleming (LA-4th), former U.S. Ambassador Paul Simons, and Dr. Volkow.
