Pill Dragon visits
A whopping 12,156 pills were destroyed by UNITE’s “Pill Dragon” – a mobile incinerator – at a free “Clean Your Medicine Cabinet Out Day” event held September 13, in the parking lot of the Williamson ARH in South Williamson. Don’t be an “Accidental Dealer” by allowing your medications to stolen or misused, and please don’t flush your medicines down the toilet or dispose of them in the trash. The Pill Dragon is sponsored by Operation UNITE, PRIDE and the Kentucky Army National Guard.

Seniors to learn how to safeguard medications
UNITE presented information to the Pikeville Senior Citizens on October 19, on how to avoid becoming an “Accidental Dealer” by monitoring prescription and over-the-counter medications. A reporter from the BBC was on hand to interview participants.

One Step Misery
An informational presentation on “One Step Misery: Kentucky Meth Epidemic” was given in Pikeville on October 11. Each year Kentucky is setting new records for the number of meth lab incidents. Children are unknowingly being contaminated, toxic chemicals are discarded and become a public health nightmare, and taxpayers spend millions of dollars on uncompensated medical care for victims of meth lab explosions. The simplicity of the manufacturing process puts us all at risk.
