LONDON – Brandi Copenhaver has been named a recipient of Operation UNITE’s “Rising Above” Award for inspiring leadership, purpose and passion in the region.

The award was presented by Gil Kerlikowske, White House Director for Drug Policy, and Fifth District Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers during a celebration dinner at the London Community Center Wednesday, February 23.

“Although Brandi lives and works in Pulaski County, she is one of the primary movers behind the UNITE coalition in neighboring McCreary County,” noted Karen Kelly, director of UNITE.

An associate professor for criminal justice at Somerset Community College for more than seven years, Brandi helped establish the McCreary County Coalition.

“Her expertise has allowed McCreary County to access federal and state monies for anti-drug youth programs and manages the Drug Free Communities grant,” Kelly said. “She doesn’t stop there – she even helps recruit youth for Camp UNITE and even spent a week with us as one of the best counselors we have ever had.”
