The KY HELP Statewide Call Center, coordinated by Operation UNITE, invites you to attend a FREE training on Casey’s Law, to be held at the Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Prestonsburg, KY, on July 18, 2018. The trainings will be conducted by Charlotte Wethington (mother of Casey Wethington, for whom the Matthew Casey Wethington Act is named) and Joan Arlinghaus.

Two three-hour sessions will be offered to better fit your work schedule. Attendees only need to register for one of these sessions. Each session will discuss how Casey’s Law provides a means of intervening with a person suffering from a substance use disorder, unable to recognize his/her need for treatment due to impairment.

The intent of Casey’s Law is to allow families and/or friends to intervene and petition the court for treatment on behalf of their loved one before they become involved with the legal system, accumulate felonies, or, most important, die from drug use. As professionals, we need to know how to assist petitioners and advocate for these families during an extremely trying time in their lives.

Applications have been made for continuing education credits to the Kentucky Board of Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CEUs for those in substance use disorder fields), Kentucky Bar Association (CLEs for judges and attorneys), and Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (CPEs for circuit and district clerks).

Please register early, as each session is limited to 100 participants. Registration closes at 5 pm Friday, July 6, 2018.

Once your registration form has been received and processed, an email confirmation of the date, time, and building location will be sent. The KY HELP Statewide Call Center and Operation UNITE will be on-site providing information on services available throughout the region. In particular, staff will share how the statewide treatment help line is a valuable resource, not only to petitioners of Casey’s Law, but to those across the Commonwealth struggling with substance abuse issues.
