The KY HELP Statewide Call Center will be featured Wednesday, June 16, on “Best of the Bluegrass,” which airs at 12:30 pm (EDT) on WLEX TV-18 in Lexington.

Courtney Maynard, a Screening & Referral Specialist, will discuss the purpose of the Call Center, staffed by Operation UNITE, with host Jennifer Palumbo.

KY HELP provides a toll-free line providing personalized, compassionate assistance and resources for Kentuckians seeking help for a substance use disorder and offering support to their families.

Individuals seeking treatment for themselves or others – as well as family members who have questions or are in need of support – can call 1-8338-KYHELP (1-833-859-4357) toll-free and speak with a specialist about available services most relevant to their needs. The line is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (EDT).

KY HELP staff provides crisis management and assists clients make informed decisions about treatment. Outreach services are available for up to one year. All calls are kept confidential.

This feature is part of a three-month promotion as part UNITE’s sponsorship of WLEX’s “You Are Not Alone” initiative.

Goals of the initiative are to educate viewers and their families on how to be mentally healthy, to provide a resource for those who are struggling and seeking help, and to present expert advice in a way that is engaging and authentic.

More than 7.7% of adolescents and adults have a substance use disorder, and Kentucky’s drug overdose rate is 33.5 per 100,000 residents. Approximately 40% of adults in Kentucky reported struggling with mental health or substance abuse in 2020.
